The Metropolitan Archdiocese of Baltimore is the principal seat of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in the United States. Founded in 1789 by Pope Pius VI, the Archdiocese serves over 500,000 Catholics in Baltimore City and nine surrounding counties.

The Lening Congregation was founded in 1940 as a result of negotiations at a conference on requests for supplementary payment with the German government. This resulted in the first pension in history for 6,500 Jewish Holocaust survivors from The Lening Congregation.
