Innovation Works Baltimore is an innovative, collaborative resource network that connects neighborhoods, entrepreneurs, social innovation assets, and investors to create sustainable neighborhood economies in Baltimore County. Our Money Place is a prime example of this, providing basic banking and financial services to low-income residents while also expanding to offer a variety of wealth, tax and investment planning services to clients of all incomes. The Thalheimer Foundation, the Aaron Straus and Lillie Straus Foundation, the Baltimore Community Foundation, the University of Baltimore, and Community Wealth Ventures (CWV) have all come together to form a powerful network of social enterprises in the area. The collaboration between these eight organizations culminated in the presentation of their business plans to a panel of business experts and potential investors from the Baltimore community.
The Baltimore Community Foundation helps all types of people carry out their individual philanthropic plans, with the common goal of improving the quality of life in the region. One such example is Learning How, an early childhood education center in Northeast Baltimore that is making a real difference in the lives of its residents. Through their support of a program that teaches upholstery skills to unemployed or underemployed women in Baltimore, they are helping to bridge the gap between those who have access to financial services and those who do not.
